One overview, then readable labels
Use even light, focus on printed identification and avoid glare. Keep original resolution and group filenames by device or lot. Photograph only equipment you are authorized to access. Do not power on, disassemble or remove parts solely for photos; include internal views only when already safely accessible.
Servers
Show the full front and rear, model label or service tag, drive-bay population and visible configuration details. Note rails, caddies, controllers, power supplies and missing parts. A bezel photo alone rarely identifies the exact configuration.
Memory and processors
For RAM, capture the module label with manufacturer part number, capacity, generation and speed where printed. Group identical part numbers and state the quantity. For loose processors, show readable top markings through safe packaging. For installed CPUs, use an existing authorized inventory record; leave the cooler installed if the model is unknown.
Graphics cards
Capture the model/part label, full card or accelerator assembly, bracket and visible power-connector area. Include memory capacity if known and note included cables or adapters. Keep loose parts protected and avoid touching contacts.
Networking and storage
For networking, show port layout, model/SKU labels, modules, power supplies and transceiver labels. For storage arrays, show chassis identification, controllers, shelves and bay population. For loose drives, show the printed model, capacity and interface. Count accessories separately and note missing caddies.
Keep sensitive information out
Do not send credentials, recovery keys, management screens, network diagrams or private records. Identify media-handling uncertainty in your inquiry instead of attempting erasure. Photos support identification; they do not establish working condition or sanitization.
Have equipment ready for review?
Send a partial list or clear photos with the equipment location and timing. Purchase, handling and verification terms are agreed in writing.
